About Virgil

Click apply to start the adoption process. Virgil is a charming American bulldog/terrier mix known for his love of belly rubs and irresistibly wiggly butt! At around 6 years old and about 53 pounds, he’s the perfect small-ish large dog for anyone seeking a devoted companion. Virgil’s name fittingly symbolizes fresh beginnings, and after some time in a shelter, he’s blossomed with great training and a nurturing foster home. This mellow boy enjoys the simple pleasures in life—lounging with his people, taking leisurely “Sunday drives,” and swimming when the opportunity arises. Virgil divides his time between relaxing cuddles, TV or nap time, and bursts of playful energy, especially when playing fetch or simply admiring nature. He truly savors the little moments, from chasing flying toys to sniffing flowers in the yard. Though happy to go on walks, Virgil is especially fulfilled with a safely fenced backyard for exercise and fun training games that keep his active mind engaged. He loves learning, takes great pride in showing off tricks, and is always eager for a tasty reward—especially when meeting new people. Introductions work best when new friends move slowly, let him approach at his own pace, and come bearing treats! Virgil needs a tranquil home—commotion or loud noises can overwhelm him, so a steady, peaceful environment helps him thrive. He must be the only pet and is seeking a single-family home with a privacy-fenced yard; neighborhoods with less dog traffic are ideal. Older kids and teens may be considered. Think you are the one?
