About Padme

Padme is a beautiful 3-year old female Pit Bull Terrier mix who was surrendered to the HSOV by her owner on July 9, 2024 and will soon be observing her one-year anniversary of being in our shelter. This lovely girl has a brown short smooth coat with a small patch of white on her chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with soft brown eyes, a red nose, and short semi-erect ears. Her owner told us that Padme had been kept indoors during the day and also at night, and that she enjoyed long walks with her family each day. Padme is housetrained. She knows some basic commands (sit, down, and shake paws). Padme had lived with other dogs but has not been around cats. She is frightened of thunder/lightning. Padme has no known behavioral issues. Her favorite activities are cuddling with her people, going to the dog park, and being outdoors. Padme had been in her home since she was a tiny 5-week old puppy .. But she had an unfortunate incident when she was being protective of her newborn puppies and bit a young adult woman (NOT a child) in their household. Padme had never in her life shown any aggressive behavior, but it was decided that she should not remain in the home after her puppies were weaned. Padme was quite the sweetheart when HSOV Tim Swaney accompanied her for first photos on July 11th 2024. Padme was very relaxed with Tim by her side and demonstrated how she could 'sit pretty' and then decided to stretch out in the green grass for some extra attention. Padme had recently weaned her puppies (which was very obvious in those pictures) and hadn't gotten her girlish figure back yet. Padme weighs 44 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. We later learned a bit more about Padme which we shared with potential adopters in her description to help her find the perfect home ... Padme is a super sweet dog who experiences severe separation anxiety (and likely feared that she had been abandoned when left alone for long hours at a time). Padme exhibited her fears by chewing/destroying items in her home (shoes, clothing, furniture, cords, etc). So she would need an individual who would have the patience to help Padme trust that her person would always return home to take care of her. Padme was also an accomplished 'door dasher' in her previous home .. If there was an open door, this smart girl would see that as an opportunity to sprint away for an adventurous run in the neighborhood. Padme begs for attention and is looking for someone special who will give her the loving home which she truly deserves. Padme was spayed on September 3, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. These updated photos of Padme were taken on June 1st 2025 when she was enjoying the freedom of a leisurely day in our front office where she could relax in a quiet area. Like many of the dogs in our shelter these days, Padme is currently being housed in a floor crate since we are over capacity (and all of our large dog kennels are full). Padme quietly posed for photos while she begged for a loving home with her beautiful sad eyes. Padme went home with a foster family this afternoon (June 14, 2025) who plans to adopt her if all goes well. Padme's foster family returned her today (June 21, 2025) and said she really needs a home where she could be 'an only child'.
