** I am currently being housed at our New York Avenue location. Come meet me at 1201 New York Avenue NE, Tuesday-Sunday from 12-7pm. Please arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. to allow ample time to interact with adoptable dogs. ** Burke was a lost dog in the city, and he was so looking for help. He found the perfect place to be safe and that was at a church! Yes, he must have been praying that someone would save him and lo and behold- his prayers were answered! When we rescued him, he quickly gobbled up his food as he was so hungry. He then gave us a happy tail wag and a smile so wide it covered his entire face! What a good boy. While here, Burke is very much enjoying his playdates with other dogs. He can really romp and roll with his canine friends. He is also loving all the pettings, treats and affection from the volunteers and staff. He's a real lover pup. A volunteer recently spent time with Burke and had this to share: "He is a sweet walking buddy, attentive and ready to take a break when you need it. He is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He absolutely loves to snuggle and isn't shy about asking to sit down for some back scratches. He does great in the car and jumps in immediately. He is ready to be the very best sidekick!" And he has become a Volunteer Favorite and they shared, "It is impossible not to smile when you are with Burke. He walks around the world with this big goofy grin on his face and an always wagging tail. He is adorably wiggly- can't stand still. He is very easy to walk - the biggest challenge is that he is constantly looking back to make sure you're still there, and if you happen to make eye contact, he gets so excited and super wiggly and must come back for snuggles before continuing on. He knows sit. He almost knows down. He is very treat motivated and learns fast. He is such a happy dog." Burke is very much looking forward to being adopted into an adult only home where he can go for long, frisky walks. He just wants to be a part of a loving family. Meet this fabulous pooch today!
