About Sheldon
What are you waiting for? Apply today! Sheldon is a charming four and a half-year-old small mixed breed, thought to be a combination of Yorkie and Dachshund, with an adorable tricolor wire coat. Since starting on a weight management diet, he is already making progress toward tip-top health. Sheldon’s gentle and affectionate side shines through now that he feels secure, especially with his foster mom, whom he completely adores and trusts for things like baths and cuddles. Grooming sessions for his nails go smoothly with a professional groomer, and he enjoys attention once he gets comfortable with you. Though his early life was marked by neglect, resulting in skin and trust issues, Sheldon’s resilience is inspiring. He has come a long way in foster care but continues to need patience, as he may be wary or even snap at new people—he sometimes gives warning nips, particularly towards men, but never with malice. An experienced adopter who is loving, compassionate, and ready to give him all the time he needs to build trust would be Sheldon's dream match. Sheldon is happiest as the only pet and is not suited for homes with children. He prefers a quiet environment, is content to relax in his crate with a treat while you’re out, and will bark if he hears something unusual—making him better suited to a house rather than an apartment or condo. This sweet boy delights in outdoor adventures where he can chase squirrels and explore by your side. He’s not fond of rain or snow but enjoys being brushed (only to roll around after and get messy again!). He lives for lap time and gentle ear rubs. Sheldon is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and current on heartworm and flea prevention. Born July 3, he’s a caring Cancer—no wonder he’s so loyal and eager to bond closely with his people! Meetings are by appointment only within the Chicago metropolitan area. Ready to help Sheldon write his happy ending? This could be the start of something paw-some.

Questions about Sheldon
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Small mixed-breed dogs like those with Dachshund and Yorkshire Terrier heritage are generally best suited for homes where they have companionship and stability. They thrive in calm environments with a predictable routine, ideally in a house rather than an apartment if they are prone to barking.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Dachshund and Yorkshire Terrier mixes are usually content with a moderate amount of outdoor space. A secure backyard or regular walks are ideal to help them burn off energy and satisfy their curiosity.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
These breeds can be loving but may not always be the best fit for homes with young children, especially if they are sensitive or nervous. They do best in homes with older children or adults who understand their boundaries.
