Luca arrived from the San Diego Humane Society with a shy, skittish temperament. At first, he kept his distance from staff, only approaching when their backs were turned. Over time, Luca began to trust the people caring for him, turning into a devoted shadow who tags along for attention whenever he isn’t distracted by play or time in the yard. He’s all about connection—once you’re in his circle, expect lots of company and curiosity. Luca does have a notable fear of new people, especially men. He reacts with barking and avoidance at first, sometimes even lunging if he feels pushed. But with patience and consistency—plus positive experiences like those he’s had with both female and male staff—he gradually opens up. Luca needs an experienced adopter who can handle his initial nerves around strangers and help him keep building positive associations, especially as he continues to learn leash skills (he freezes when a leash goes on). With a gentle hand and steady routine, he’ll settle into home life and offer unwavering loyalty. He’s not yet house trained but thrives best with another dog buddy and space to roam safely.
