About Penny

Think you are the one? Submit an application! Meet Penny! Originally transferred as a young pup in 2018, Penny has returned to Heart of Gold's Shelter as an adult, displaying the unique features and charm of a Basenji mix, though her background hints at some Labrador and Boxer, too. Over time, Penny has developed anxiety that has led to fear-based reactivity, but thanks to her current foster home's expertise and structured environment, she is making great progress and thriving among multiple dogs and even four cats. Penny will flourish in a home with either no other pets or with a confident owner who has extensive experience managing multi-animal or reactive dog households. She occasionally gets a bit too excited when playing but is immediately responsive to boundaries. Penny forms strong attachments to those she trusts and prefers quality time with her people and select furry friends over the hustle of dog parks. She can be quite affectionate—on her terms, much like a cat—and her loyalty is unwavering once bonded. Active and athletic, Penny loves to run, play fetch, chase, and explore, but she equally enjoys relaxing and cuddling during downtime. Her future family will receive a bundle of professional training sessions to help with her transition, ensuring ongoing support and success in her second chance at a forever home. She's looking for patience, structure, and a little extra understanding. As a fun fact, Penny was born on March 2, making her a Pisces—known for their deep bonds and intuitive nature! Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
