Emmett has the kind of face you don't forget. He’s an 8-year-old Belgian Shepherd Malinois and American Bulldog mix, brown and black, with a sharp mind beneath that mischievous grin. Emmett's lived most of his life as a mostly outdoor dog, surrounded by other dogs, but separation anxiety has always been an issue for him—he’s never really had the reliable people he deserves. He absolutely needs someone determined to give him a fair shake this time. Affection and toys get his attention, though he’s discerning with treats. He can be a bit of a rascal, seeing what rules he can push, so a firm and persistent leader matters here. Training sticks fast with him, especially basic commands, and having a well-mannered dog already at home could help show him the ropes. He doesn’t bark much—when he does, it’s quiet and a little raspy—but he sure likes to "talk" in his own way. Observant, present, and a fan of following his favorite humans, Emmett also enjoys a good brush, splash in water, and a bout of wrestling. He is house-trained and settles into a large kennel for short periods. Small animals and cats are not a good fit, given his prey drive.
