Truffles is a brown, large Lab mix whose path to Milton, DE, was anything but easy. Rescued from a bleak hoarding situation, she came to Delaware deeply timid and largely feral, clinging to survival instincts. Her recovery has been steady but deliberate—these days, Truffles finds refuge in her crate and prefers her routines. Her crate is her home base; she only leaves it to venture outside if her resident 'bestie', another dog, is with her. On her own, Truffles will bark and scurry back to safety. If you climb in to offer scratches, she’ll accept affection, and with encouragement or a little carrying, she’ll settle in quietly for couch time and love. But don’t expect her to chase after attention or affection on her own terms—she’s just not that kind of dog. She’s dog friendly and actually needs another dog in her next home. A canine companion isn’t optional for Truffles; it’s required for her confidence. She plays pretty rough, so friendly, resilient resident dogs suit her best. Truffles also does fine with dog-savvy cats. While her house training is solid, other skills like leashed walks and solo car rides remain works in progress—she does best with a friend by her side. A fenced yard is a must, as leashed walks make her anxious, and she’s happiest running and playing with other dogs. On the medical side, Truffles is spayed, vaccinated, and manages significant skin allergies with supplements, allergy meds, flea prevention, a careful diet, and medicated baths as needed. Her new adopter should understand her unique needs and accept that she won’t become a carefree, affectionate pet.
