Combie is a large, striking young American Blue Bay Shepherd with an affectionate, clever streak and a very social nature. Despite his wolf-like looks, he’s all about people and has spent plenty of time out in public meeting strangers—both at home and on outings to dog-friendly breweries and wineries. Combie is great with the 10-year-old girl and her friends in his foster home and generally gets along very well with other dogs, always showing playful, submissive behavior. He has been fully neutered, microchipped, and his vaccinations are current. There are important behavioral needs to consider. Combie is fully house trained and respectful of household boundaries. He’s had strong obedience training and does well on a leash, though his recall still needs work. But, after a frightening nighttime incident as a young puppy—a house fire—Combie developed significant fear and aggression if woken in the middle of the night. This continues to be a safety concern; he cannot be crated or confined overnight and must sleep in a space physically separated from people (garage or outdoors preferred). He will need adopters willing to consistently manage his nighttime fears and work within his limits. Combie does not do well alone at night and would thrive with other dogs nearby. With a medium energy level, Combie enjoys his walks, car rides, swimming, and engaging games of tug. He should not live with cats due to a high prey drive and hasn’t met young children or very small dogs yet. Resource guarding over food items has been noted and managed.
