About Combie

What are you waiting for? Apply today! Combie is a striking, recently neutered 14-month-old American Blue Bay Shepherd—an emerging breed designed to combine a majestic wolf-inspired look with ideal family dog qualities. Combie is currently staying with his people in Meadow Vista, CA, not directly with German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley, but is seeking his forever home through their adoption network for wider reach. Affectionate and clever, Combie is socially sophisticated thanks to dedicated early socialization. He is very friendly with strangers, enjoys the company of older children (he currently lives happily with a 10-year-old and her friends), and thrives on outings to dog-friendly venues. Combie has exemplary manners with other dogs, often showing playful, gentle behaviors and is non-reactive to aggression from other dogs. He’s fully house trained, respectful of household rules, and stays off the furniture and out of the kitchen as expected. Combie has received extensive obedience training, walks beautifully on a Gentle Leader, and is a calm passenger in the car, even on long drives. Play is important to him—he particularly loves tug-of-war and interactive chase games, and even enjoys swimming. His energy level suits a lifestyle with two daily walks and interactive play at home. However, Combie’s ideal home must be aware of his unique needs due to a traumatic experience involving a nighttime fire in his previous home, which has left him with a profound fear reaction at night. While professional behaviorists have greatly improved his evening calm, he still reacts aggressively if startled awake in the middle of the night and cannot be crated at bedtime. The right adopter can provide a safe sleeping space separated from people at night—such as a garage, outbuilding, or outdoors in appropriate weather—and ideally, companionship from another dog. For safety, homes with small children or cats are not a fit, as his prey drive is unknown and safety must come first. Combie is hoping to meet a dedicated adopter willing to embrace his behavioral needs and continue nurturing his affectionate, playful spirit. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to bring joy, intelligence, and a distinct presence to a loving home. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
