About Greta
Please read our Core Values prior to applying, www.furryfriendsnetwork.com/adopt/our-expectations. Posted 5/15/2025 Greta is a Shih Tzu, dob 1/21/2016, weighing 10.4 lbs. She came into foster care after being surrendered from an Amish breeder. We don't know the life she endured, but as evidenced by the the poor physical condition upon surrender, Greta suffered greatly. Greta's coat was very dirty with small mats and her nails were very long. She was groomed immediately. While she was very timid and shaking, Greta tolerated the bathing, nail trim and grooming very well. Upon intake, Greta was shut down, but day-by-day has been coming out of her shell. She is still acclimating to life outside of a cage. Her behaviors are very typical of a dog used over and over for breeding with little to no human interaction. Greta has a mature cataract in her left eye and a developing one in her right eye. Her vision is impaired but she has some sight. Because she cannot see well, she is very wary of touch. Greta does not know what grass is; she doesn’t know what a collar and leash are. She goes onto the patio, sniffs around and will pee, but with the limited vision, she is more comfortable inside using pee pads. Greta is not housebroken; however, she wears a washable, Velcro closure diaper successfully outside of her indoor kennel area. Greta seeks attention, just not much touching at this time. She will sit in a lap, and allows petting. She is a sweet-natured little girl and will make a wonderful companion to someone who is willing to continue to work with her. Greta was surrendered with a Bichon named Jelly Bean. They get along very well and while they're not bonded, it would be good for Greta to have a dog companion to help her continue to come out of her shell. While both have been exposed to a 3-year-old boy and will let him come to the enclosure and try to touch them, a more mature home is recommended. Please help Greta experience the love of a human. She deserves it! Contact generalinfo@furryfriendsnetwork.com for questions or if issues are encountered with the adoption application or general adoption process. Foster Homes are desperately needed in order to help more animals like this one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal.
