Hi, I’m Canelo—a 3-year-old, 67-pound boy who’s still learning that the world isn’t as scary as it feels right now. The shelter environment has been really overwhelming for me, and I often freeze up, hide, or flinch when people try to interact. But I’m trying. I take treats gently, I’ll accept soft pets in my kennel when I feel safe, and I’m showing little signs of hope. My kennel tech says I’m much easier to handle once I’m out of the shelter—like I just need space, kindness, and time to come back to myself.
