About Leia
Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Leia – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Soft Place to Land Leia, affectionately called Lay Lay or Lei Lei, is a 1.5-year-old Collie/Lab mix weighing around 40 lbs. Her early life was spent as a stray with her sister, and she endured seven long months in a shelter, where her shy nature kept her hidden away. Now experiencing the warmth of foster care, Leia is beginning to trust and see that people can be kind. Leia is a sweet, gentle girl who is shy and unsure around new people. At first she may keep her distance or bark from across the room, but her fear is never aggressive—just a wish to stay safe. Given patience and understanding, her playful personality starts to shine. Watching her come out of her shell is truly heartwarming. Leia would thrive in a calm, understanding home with someone willing to invest time in building her trust. Once she feels secure, she enjoys being part of family activities, especially when it comes to walks—her absolute favorite thing. Leia is always the first one to the door and prefers to lead the way, sniffing and exploring each new adventure. Some of Leia’s wonderful qualities include being crate trained, willingly using her crate, house trained (especially if there is a dog door), and gentle when taking treats—though she sometimes prefers you place them on the floor. She is not destructive, though she might sneak off with a sock or shoe on occasion. Leia is great with other dogs, particularly playful ones, and she does well with cats at home. She has no resource guarding issues. Leia isn’t interested in toys but delights in flipping dirt around the yard, chasing the hose, and napping by the window. Her joy is quiet, simple, and sincere. She is searching for a calm, patient adopter who will give her the time she needs to settle and who will make walks a priority. Leia’s future is bright, and she is looking for someone who sees the beauty in the shy ones and is ready to show her what a loving forever home feels like. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
