About Lou

Lou is a 1.5-year-old Heeler/Terrier mix with a goofy spirit and a lot of heart. At about 32 pounds, he’s eager to join an active home where adventure, steady companionship, and belly rubs are part of the daily routine. Lou thrives on hikes, chasing tennis balls, and play sessions with other dogs—especially bigger ones—but he’s just as happy curling up next to you for a nap, accompanied by his endearing sleepy sounds. He’s smart and a quick learner, picking up a long list of commands and thoroughly motivated by treats. Lou is fully potty trained, does well in his crate overnight, and enjoys chewing on toys (redirect those to non-shoes, just in case). His exuberance sometimes leads to leash pulling or sampling things off the ground, but he’s easily guided back to focus. Lou can be wary of unfamiliar people and noises, often sticking protectively close to those he loves. He truly bonds with his humans and would do best in a quiet home—preferably outside the city—without children. Lou has been working hard to overcome resource-guarding behaviors, and his future family should keep up with his positive training. He’d love a confident dog sibling to romp with, but homes with smaller dogs or small animals aren’t the best fit. If you’re looking for a spirited, loyal companion who will make you laugh and snuggle up by your side, Lou is ready to settle in with someone who understands dogs like him. Lou’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered; his adoption fee is $500. What are you waiting for? Apply today!

Questions about Lou

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Heeler/Terrier mixes like Lou can be protective and sometimes reactive, so he’d do best in a home without children. He’s best matched with adults or teens who understand dogs and respect his boundaries.
