About Hurley
Hurley is a striking medium-sized orange tabby with a white ruff and paws. When he first arrived, he was very timid and would hide from volunteers, but eventually began greeting them at the door and accepting gentle pets and scratches. While Hurley appreciates attention on his own terms, he remains shy around unfamiliar people and large groups, and he strongly dislikes being picked up. Hurley was adopted by someone who seemed to connect well with him, enjoying quiet moments together and even sharing some early lap time. However, once in his new home, Hurley hid and stayed out of reach, eventually biting out of fear when moved from his hiding place. After ten stressful days, he returned to the rescue. He is readjusting, but Hurley still seeks out high or tucked-away spots when things get busy. He likely won’t thrive in homes with children or dogs, but does get along with other cats. Hurley needs a patient person in a quiet space who can let him adjust at his own speed. His next setup should offer no deep hiding spots—just cozy beds, favorite toys, and a perch with a view. It could take weeks or months for him to begin seeking out companionship again, but he has shown he’s capable of progress when truly given space and time.
