About Hester
Start your journey together! Apply now. Hester is a sweet-natured 4-year-old Rottweiler whose life changed when her previous owner's landlord required her to leave. She is described as one of the gentlest dogs ever encountered in over two decades of rescue experience—a true people lover who delights in companionship and will stay at your side as much as possible. Currently living with three large foster siblings, Hester gets along beautifully with other dogs, showing a submissive, easygoing, and moderately playful personality. When Hester arrived, she was significantly overweight at 125 pounds and struggled to move comfortably, but with a healthy diet of weight-management food and some canned meals mixed in, she has made impressive progress, now down to 114 pounds. Her goal weight is about 100 pounds, and her healthy habits are well underway. Hester is fully house trained and adapts with either a crate or a baby gate. She does have some separation anxiety, so she is not suitable for households where she would be left alone for long hours. While alone, she may rearrange her bedding or bowls, seeking comfort. She is best suited to a home with someone around much of the time. Hester tested positive for heartworms initially but has completed her treatment and is now spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Please note that her adoption fee is $300. Her adopter must be within approximately an hour's drive of Atlanta to ensure the best transition into her forever home. Questions about Hester
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Rottweilers do best in homes where they have structure, space, and plenty of human interaction. They thrive with a secure yard or ample walking space, but can adapt to suburban or rural homes where they receive sufficient exercise and companionship.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Rottweilers benefit from a securely fenced yard to play and explore, but they can adapt to regular walks and outings if a large yard is not available. Daily exercise is key to keeping them mentally and physically fit.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Rottweilers are generally good with children when properly socialized, thanks to their loyal and protective nature. Supervision is recommended to ensure positive interactions, particularly with younger kids due to the breed's large size.
