Shadow is a sweet, resilient soul who has endured more than most dogs should in his five years of life. Rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico, he found his way to Tampa Bay and was given the gift of a loving home. But after a cross-country move triggered severe anxiety, Shadow was surrendered—his little heart broken once again. For a while, things looked brighter. Shadow was adopted by another family and started to find comfort again. But when his vision began to fade, his family chose not to seek answers and returned him to us. He came back overweight, with swollen ankles, and carrying the weight of heartbreak yet again. We soon discovered that Shadow has a thyroid condition. With medication, a healthy diet, and proper care, he's already improving and showing glimpses of the happy, playful pup he truly is. His vision loss may even be connected to this condition, and he's undergoing further evaluation to give him the best chance possible. Through it all—every setback, every loss—Shadow has remained the same at his core: a love bug who just wants to be close to his people. He deserves a calm, patient home where he can continue healing, feel safe, and finally be cherished for the incredible companion he is.
