Mateo is a large, adult male domestic short hair cat with a glossy black and white coat. He is neutered, house trained, and current on all vaccinations. Mateo lives in Columbus, OH, and is known for his friendly, resilient nature. While FIV positive, he thrives with attentive care and can coexist peacefully with other cats in a supportive environment.

About Mateo

Mateo is the definition of a survivor. He started life hiding under a car in a parking lot, thin and fighting a rough respiratory infection, but he refused to give up. Once rescued, Mateo bounced back fast—after a full-mouth dental, neutering, and up-to-date vaccinations, he’s fully turned the page. Now he’s ready for a fresh start in a caring home. Mateo is FIV positive, but it doesn’t slow him down. With good care and a calm household, he’ll stick around for many healthy years. For those with other cats, the important thing is a friendly environment—FIV is only transmitted through deep bite wounds, so a peaceful crew works just fine. Mateo gets along well with feline companions and his bond with Little Gary, a female cat, proves it. You’ll often spot them snuggled up or grooming each other, which is about as sweet as it gets. Around four years old, Mateo has a big personality: confident, friendly, and eager to greet pretty much anyone. He strolls the office with swagger but is also happy for attention and affection. It’s rare to find a cat with his spirit and resilience. He’s come through so much and is ready to become someone’s devoted sidekick. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
