About Mary
Click apply to start the adoption process. Mary is a 1 1/2 year old domestic short hair cat who arrived at the rescue with her six kittens in late May 2025. With a gentle and elusive nature, Mary is rarely seen in the free roam areas, making it challenging for people to get to know her right away. She is a devoted mother and shows a deep affection for other cats, often connecting more easily with her feline companions than with people. Mary adjusts to new environments at her own pace, like a slow cooker warming up over time. After arriving, she gradually moved from lower cubbies to higher wall cubbies, slowly becoming more social with the other cats. Sometimes guests might spot her lounging outstretched, rubbing against sisal posts, or entertaining herself with a standing toy. Over time, she has grown more comfortable, now enjoying gentle petting and even venturing out of her favorite hiding places with a little encouragement. Curious and surprisingly adaptable, Mary once slipped away from the main cattery and spent several days hiding before reappearing—curling up contentedly with two resident pups in the meet and greet area. She truly enjoys the company of dogs and other cats alike. Mary is looking for a patient adopter who will allow her to bloom at her own speed and who appreciates her sweet, independent spirit. Her adoption fee of $70 covers her spay, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm prevention, FIV/FeLV tests, microchip, and the care she’s received at Clay County Humane Society. Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today.
