Fitzwilliam has settled in after a couple of months in foster care and, despite starting out on the life saver list due to his length of stay, has become a steady, enjoyable companion. He doesn’t throw his affection at you but shows his calm side by quietly sitting nearby, gently asking for attention before wandering off to do his own thing. In the evening, he likes to relax in the yard and is content with a little company and some pats. He’s a large mastiff who can occasionally show his strength on the leash, especially if there’s wildlife nearby, but on regular walks he’s easy to handle. Fitzwilliam takes time to warm up to new people and may be shy, tending to move away rather than react; given a moment or two, he’ll approach for a sniff and eventually say hello. Though described as semi-feral in the past, he mainly needs care when getting out of the car, as he has a quick bolting instinct – but this settles in seconds. Fitzwilliam enjoys the company of other dogs and did well in play groups at the shelter. He is house trained, gets along with children, and needs a home with a secure 6-foot fenced yard for his safety.
