About Canelo
Canelo is a small Chihuahua mix with a striking red-brown and white coat, accented with bits of black fur and a medium length coat. Heās looking for a foster or permanent home after landing on the losing end of a one-dog rule. Canelo can be shy or standoffish with new people, posturing like a tough guy until he warms up, but once he trusts you, he thrives on walks, playing with little stuffed toys, and curling up for belly rubs. He loves treats, but needs them given on an open palmāhe will bite if you try to grab something from his mouth, so he isnāt a fit for homes with kids. Heās housetrained but benefits from very clear reminders to go outside. At night, Canelo prefers to burrow under a soft blanket on his own bed, ideally in the same room as his person. He wants an environment with minimal chaos, and does best with a female human, ideally as the only dog at home (though he greets dogs at the park and out on walks just fine). Canelo has excellent leash manners, enjoys car rides, and wonāt bark much. Crate trained but not fond of being confined as punishment, heās protective, loyal, and craves consistency from his people. Born June 7, Canelo is a Geminiāplayful, curious, and quick to bond with the right person. Click apply to start the adoption process.
