About Nita

Nita’s story starts on the streets of Puerto Rico, where she was found unable to walk, her little body battered and broken. After enduring surgeries and metal implants, she now runs, jumps, and plays with the kind of wild spirit you’d never guess from her history. Her knee still needs surgical help (she has a luxating patella), and she’ll need continued care for her special needs. Initially close to feral—uncomfortable with humans and scared of touch—Nita blossomed after time spent with a patient foster and a dog trainer in Colorado. She now lets you leash her, pick her up, and even comes for pets. Still, she’s always happier with other dogs around. She learns fast, is highly food motivated, and listens well—she gets a lot of joy from playtime and runs circles with a silly, tail-less enthusiasm that earned her the nickname "Ninja." Nita is happiest with other dogs but sometimes tries to boss them around. She is fully grown and tiny, about 15 lbs, looking like a little min pin (but with bat ears). Indoors, she always uses potty pads and hasn’t missed. She crates herself when she needs a safe spot but dislikes being left alone. With people she trusts, she’ll show bursts of affection and joy. If you want to give her a chance, you’ll need patience, dog experience, at least one other dog at home, and a willingness to foster before adopting—with support from a trainer. Nita is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She’s a goof with a lot to offer the right home. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
