About Winston

Winston survived a terrible cruelty case in West Port, NY and is proof that resilience comes in all shapes and sizes. After his rescue, he was brought to Virginia Beach to decompress and learn how to be a dog again. Winston is a lab mix, though there may be some Japanese terrier or other active working breed in that energetic body. At just over 2 years old and about 51 lbs, he's all about movement—alert, quick, and ready for whatever comes next. Winston thrives outdoors and would chase critters all day if given the chance, but he can clear a 6-foot fence with ease. For his safety, Winston either needs an 8-foot fenced yard or a home committed to leash walking and direct supervision outside. He’s making progress on housebreaking and currently eats once a day while he learns. Although he can be reactive to unfamiliar dogs and people out and about, he does get along with dogs he's met through proper introductions. Cats are not for Winston. He knows commands like Sit, Crate Down, and Let’s Go, and is still learning to Settle. Winston is best suited for an active household that can keep up with his intensity and independence. He’s a real companion—but only for the right human. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
