About Nico Paws Behind

Nico is an 8-year-old, 65-pound Mastiff/Malinois mix who has seen his share of challenges. Once part of an active family, he lost his home when life changed during Covid and his people could no longer keep both of their large dogs. Nico’s basic training is rock solid; he graduated from the Paws Behind Bars Prison Training Program with obedience skills that go beyond the usual sit and stay. He responds to advanced commands like "peak," "place,” and can even do scent work. He’s low energy and happiest roaming the woods or lounging in the sun. Nico bonds deeply with his chosen person and does best with a dog-savvy, understanding owner willing to give him structure and respect. While Nico can be social, his prey drive and past shape his comfort level—he’ll thrive as the only dog in a quiet home with a yard to enjoy. New situations and noise can put him on edge, so a peaceful setting is key. He absolutely loves a car ride, especially if it ends at the drive-thru for a treat. Nico’s adoption fee is sponsored, making it even easier to bring him home. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
