About Honey
Honey is a 5-year-old Hound/Terrier mix who lives up to her name in sweetness. Medium-sized and just under 50 pounds, she’s fully housebroken and crate trained, though she’s comfortable sleeping in a dog bed near her foster’s bed these days. Walks are right up her alley as long as she doesn’t run into many other dogs; she’s reactive and needs an experienced handler with confidence in managing her ongoing training. Honey knows her basic commands and is making big improvements with the help of a professional trainer. Honey barks to alert her humans about anything out of the ordinary, so a quiet suburban or rural home is best—she’s not cut out for apartments or tight, noisy quarters. She’s happiest in homes where someone is around throughout the day. She bonds closely with her people, trailing after them and craving affection. Toys, belly rubs, and showing off her paw are favorite pastimes, and she thrives on personal attention. With strangers, Honey can be cautious but warms up with treats and patience. She should be an only dog, but cats are fine by her. If kids are present, they need to be respectful teenagers. Honey was found as a stray, raised her puppies, and watched them all get adopted; now it’s her turn to settle into her home for good. The ideal adopter will live within an hour of Cary, NC (a little further is possible for the right fit) and be ready to give this affectionate, soulful dog the attention she deserves.
