Narwhal
AvailableNarwhal is a medium-sized, young neutered male with a short black and white/cream coat, currently living in Benld, IL. He’s a mix of Coonhound and Australian Cattle Dog, up to date on his vaccinations, and was born in November 2022. Narwhal doesn’t have special needs and is looking for the right fit. His affectionate personality shines, but continued training will help him thrive.
About Narwhal
Narwhal landed in rescue after an unplanned litter and DNA tests revealed he’s an Australian Shepherd and Treeing Walker Coonhound mix—plus ten more breeds for good measure. Born in November 2022, he’s a spirited, happy boy built for adventure and eager to learn. Narwhal was previously adopted, but returned to the rescue because his herding instincts surfaced around young kids. After plenty of work with a professional trainer at the shelter, Narwhal’s become quite the canine socialite and has learned to walk on a leash, sit on command, and join dog play groups. He’ll still need continued training in his new home, particularly house and basic manners, but he’s proven he can make progress with guidance. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to be someone’s adventure buddy. Narwhal should not go to a home with children under 12 and can be selective about other pets—proper introductions with dog-friendly dogs are a must. Potential adopters need to live within 100 miles of Benld or Springfield, IL, and be at least 18 years old. Fun fact: Born March 19, Narwhal is a compassionate Pisces, which may explain his affectionate side. Adoption could be the start of Narwhal’s best chapter yet. Narwhal will do best with a securely fenced yard or frequent trips to open outdoor spaces, as his mix has high energy and needs room to run and play.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
