About Hoss

Hoss is a big, gentle young Labrador Retriever mix who's spent most of his life with a foster family after being born in West Virginia and making his way north. He shares his home with another large dog, a Labradoodle, and clearly enjoys the company—so much so that Hoss really needs another dog in his future forever home to keep him confident, playful, and secure. He also gets visits from young kids and is calm and kind around them, though he can be shy at first with new people. Very mellow for his age, Hoss is happy lounging around, snuggling up for TV time, or playing fetch with his ball and Kongs. He's housebroken, rings a bell to ask to go outside, and sleeps quietly through the night in his crate. He knows "sit" and "down," and heads to his crate on command. Hoss has a cautious side—he’s startled by loud noises and gets easily distracted by passing wildlife—so a fenced-in yard is absolutely essential to keep him safe. He can be anxious without a canine buddy and doesn’t have experience with cats, so a cat-free home is best. Patience is required at first as he warms up to new people, but once he adjusts, his best qualities shine through. Hoss has been neutered, vaccinated, and fully vetted. If you’re looking for a young, sweet-natured pup who just needs a steady friend and a bit of time to settle in, Hoss could be the right fit. Make his next year his best one yet.
