Marcel
AvailableMarcel is a male, medium-sized Domestic Short Hair mixed breed cat who is about 1 year old, living in Anchorage, AK. He has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, and is house trained. Marcel is shy by temperament and would thrive in a patient home willing to help him feel secure.
About Marcel
Marcel moves through the world with quiet caution, preferring the safety of a familiar space over the excitement of a crowd. Like his siblings, he takes time to trust—shy does not mean just hiding under a couch for a visitor, but feeling genuinely uneasy around new people. Marcel needs a home where every step is gentle, every approach patient, and where strategies for building trust—not assumptions—guide your interactions. Multiple visits alongside the shelter's Behavioral Team are essential to letting him gradually show flashes of his playful, curious nature, like the way he pounces after a peacock feather or chases a laser with kitten enthusiasm. Adopters must respect this vulnerable side and avoid imposing on his space, especially at first. Soft voices, calm movements, and enrichment toys are key to helping him feel secure. Marcel should be adopted with another cat (ideally a sibling, or if you already have a gentle feline companion), to help continue his social growth. The shelter will require a thoughtful adoption process: everyone in the household must meet him and agree to the placement, and homes must be prepared and cat-friendly. The rescue prohibits declawing and asks that cats be returned if the placement doesn’t work out at any time. Marcel is still young, delightfully playful with those he trusts, and just waiting to show you why patience pays off. Indoor living is required; catios or harness walks are encouraged for safe enrichment. Ongoing behavioral support is provided from the shelter team to set both Marcel and his adopter up for success.
