About Higgins
Higgins is a small chihuahua mix with a distinctive underbite and a big chest, but what stands out most is his gentle, quiet nature. Underneath his tough-looking exterior, he's just a soft, shy soul looking for a safe place to land. Higgins is fully house-trained with a consistent schedule, and although he doesn't always signal when he needs out, he’ll use a potty pad if needed. He prefers sleeping in an open crate and is content spending time alone, though he’s grown more attached to his foster and enjoys following her around. He’s sensitive to noise and chaos—loud sounds, busy rooms, or quick movements unsettle him. Hardwood floors and doorways are also intimidating, so he feels most secure in a calmer home with carpet and understanding adults. If startled, Higgins hides rather than becoming defensive; he’s never shown aggression. This sweet dog thrives on patience, quiet companionship, and gentle affection (especially butt scratches!). He gets along well with calm, small dogs and has done well with older, respectful children. Higgins likes going outside, walks beautifully on leash, and enjoys calmly observing his surroundings. He would do best in a peaceful household, ideally with one or two adults, a yard for potty breaks, and maybe a chill canine buddy. Higgins needs someone who understands that trust grows slowly, but once won, he offers quiet loyalty and warmth. He’ll burrow under blankets on the couch, watch for you with a wagging tail, and reward kindness and patience with deep, contented companionship. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
