About Smokey the Bear
Smokey the Bear is a small senior Chihuahua/Terrier mix whose resilience stands out. At 18 pounds, he’s already weathered more than his share—coming in with a luxated hip, healing rib fractures, and puncture wounds. He has some age-related spine changes, but even with these challenges, his sweet, steady spirit remains. Smokey is recovering nicely and has a serious preference for plates or small metal bowls at mealtime. He’s determined to get around on his own; rugs or textured walkways help with stability, as slick floors make him nervous. He’ll need to keep things calm for the next month while his body continues to heal, and a supportive sling can make moving easier. New situations can make Smokey anxious, but he quickly warms up to gentle affection and craves a peaceful, nurturing place to settle in. He’s on several medications at the moment and will need a vet recheck soon, with possible FHO surgery if his hip doesn’t heal as hoped. Smokey is looking for a loving home where he can heal in comfort and offer quiet company in return. He’s a fitting match for someone who truly values the golden years. What are you waiting for?
