About Smokey The Bear
Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started. Smokey the Bear may be small in size, but he has the heart and bravery of a true survivor. This senior Chihuahua/Terrier mix weighs just 18 pounds and has faced more than most pups ever should. He arrived with a luxated hip, healing rib fractures, and puncture wounds, along with some age-related spinal changes (spondylosis). Through it all, Smokey’s gentle and sweet spirit shines brightly. Now on the mend, Smokey is eating well—he prefers his meals served on a plate or in a small metal bowl, revealing his refined taste. He’s determined when getting around but does best with rugs or textured mats to help him feel secure on slippery floors. For the next month, he’ll need a calm environment and limited activity while he heals, and a supportive sling helps him stay steady during walks. Smokey can be a bit nervous at first, which is understandable after all he’s endured, but he quickly seeks out gentle affection once he realizes he's safe. He longs for a peaceful, loving home where he can continue his recovery and enjoy the comfort every senior pup deserves. Smokey currently takes several medications and will need a veterinary recheck in about a month. Depending on his healing, an FHO surgery may be considered down the line. If you see senior dogs as treasures and want to give a special little hero his best chapter yet, Smokey the Bear offers quiet companionship, gratitude, and a great big heart. Fun fact: With a birthday of December 3, Smokey is a Sagittarius, which makes him adventurous and optimistic by nature. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
