Makani is a small, young cat with striking black and white tuxedo markings and a presence that’s a mix of vulnerability and independence. She was a patient, protective mother, and although her kittens Zoe and Odin found homes and developed into outgoing cats, Makani’s shy nature has persisted. She does not want to be handled or touched and will defend her space if she feels threatened—her responses are rooted in fear, not aggression, but she leaves no doubt about her boundaries. Because of this, she isn’t a fit for families with children and needs an adopter with real cat experience and a willingness to respect Makani’s limits. One thing Makani loves, though, is the company of other cats. She seeks out fellow felines, finds comfort and stability with them, and is notably more relaxed around her own kind. She would do best in a home with other cats, or even better, as a working or barn cat on a safe property where she can be herself. If you have a secure yard, catio, or rural space and need a resident cat who prefers limited human interaction but will thrive among feline friends, Makani will settle in on her own terms.
