About Barkley

Barkley is a medium-sized Shepherd, around 5 years old and about 50 lbs, who was surrendered after not getting along with livestock and chickens. She has to be the only dog in her home and does not get along with cats or birds. Barkley is house trained and enjoys curling up on the sofa for belly rubs, especially if she can soak up attention from her person. She’s smart and quickly learns house rules—if you tell her which couch is allowed, she sticks to it, even when no one’s watching. Her gentle nature shines when she lets you take things away from her mouth, and she loves a good chew toy or a game of tug with an old sock. Barkley is affectionate with people, polite, and tends to win over even non-dog folks. She would thrive with someone who stays home and wants a loyal companion right by their side. She craves affection and can be anxious if left alone, sometimes causing property damage if confined or left with strangers, so she’s best for a household where someone is around most of the day. She can clear a 4.5 to 5 foot fence, so a secure yard is needed, and she gets the zoomies if you join her outside. Walks are an adventure for her; she pulls strongly on leash and does better with a harness. Barkley’s not a barker—she only alerts for odd street noises or knocks at the door and otherwise barely makes a peep. She does have a schedule for meals and holds her weight well on dry food. Barkley will need a home with no other pets, patience as she settles, and someone ready for all-in loyalty and love. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
