About Dexter
Dexter is a 4-year-old Chiweenie, a blend of Chihuahua and Dachshund, who weighs around 26 pounds. After losing his owner, Dexter ended up in a tiny cage, which left him timid. Since coming into care, he’s started to open up—these days he’ll gladly join in a tug-of-war and surprise you with his strength. Around other dogs, Dexter is sociable, though he’s never been tried with cats or kids. Give him a little time and patience, and he’ll show his sweet, affectionate side. Currently, Dexter is still grieving and needs a gentle adopter to help him settle into a new chapter. He’s been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is heartworm negative with consistent monthly prevention. If you want to help him heal, he’s waiting in Eustis, FL for someone willing to offer patience and a calm home. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Dexter
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Dexter is a Chiweenie, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, and typically does well in apartments or smaller homes as long as he gets regular activity. They enjoy being close to their people and often prefer cozy, quiet spaces.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Chiweenies like Dexter don't require a large backyard but do benefit from daily walks and short chances to play outside. A secure yard is nice but not necessary if regular exercise is provided.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Dexter's breed mix can do well with respectful kids, especially if properly socialized early on. Since Dexter hasn’t been tested with children, supervision and gentle introductions would be important.
