Meet Spike—this delightful 5-year-old Shepherd mix has a heart that’s as big as his charming personality (and he’s quite the handsome lad too)! 🎉 At a snuggly 66 pounds, he has the exuberance of a puppy wrapped in the shape of a charming Butterball turkey—round, handsome, and utterly impossible to resist! 🦃 Spike joined our rescue family after a tough situation where he and many other pups were surrendered by a caregiver who could no longer provide for them. But despite the bumps in his road, this little trooper's zest for life is just as vibrant as ever! 🌟 He’s a social butterfly who thrives on human companionship, especially when he’s around trusted friends. Kids? He absolutely adores them! 🥰 Whether it’s taking long, joyful walks, exploring the play yard, or just being your affectionate shadow, Spike brings joy to every moment. His affectionate and active nature shines brightest, especially after he’s earned your trust (ladies, he seems to have a special bond with you!). 💖 While Spike has had some successful encounters with his canine pals at the shelter, he prefers slow introductions in a new home. With patience, he could definitely share his space with another friendly pup! However, he’s not a fan of cats and would thrive best in a feline-free environment. 🐾 In terms of health, Spike is doing overall well, but here’s the scoop: he has some changes in his heart likely due to a past battle with heartworm disease. The good news is that his heartworm tests are consistently negative! He does have some heart enlargement and mild pulmonary changes, but don’t worry—his joyful spirit and daily adventures remain unchanged! He’ll be starting on Vetmedin to give his heart the support it needs. Regular vet visits and extra love will be essential, but if there's one thing Spike knows, it's how to love deeply! 🐶❤️ Spike is keeping his kennel clean, so house-training should be a breeze with some reassurance and a consistent routine. All he needs is a loving home where he can feel safe, understood, and most importantly, loved! 🌻 He’s already been neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested. Plus, he’s up to date on all his vaccines, including rabies, and has even been dewormed and started on flea/tick prevention!
