About Texas

Meet Texas, lovingly nicknamed Simba because of his majestic lion-like appearance! 🌟 This 1.5-year-old Labrador Retriever is a gentle soul navigating this wild world with a touch of caution. Having journeyed all the way from Texas, Texas has been working on feeling safe and secure in his foster home in Buffalo. He's not your typical rambunctious pup, oh no! This fella takes his time, observing the world with thoughtful paws and those deep, soulful eyes. 🦁 Let’s talk temperament. Texas is currently a bit of a wallflower; he’s anxious and faces a big world full of new people and experiences. If an unfamiliar face approaches too quickly or makes direct eye contact, you may see him retreat or even growl. ✋ But don't fret—he’s just needing a little space and time to adjust. When introductions are slow and respectful, he can truly blossom! While he's a little shy with humans, Texas has a heart of gold, especially when it comes to his furry friends! He thrives in calm settings and enjoys gentle interactions with dogs, particularly in open spaces where he can feel free to move away if needed. At daycare, he’s the quiet observer, enjoying a little company before finding a cozy nook to relax. 🐾 Texas is a true foodie at heart! 🍗🥗 You'll find that he is absolutely smitten with home-cooked meals, particularly chicken and rice. He’s a patient little guy who will wait ever so nicely while his meal is being prepared. Treats are an amazing way to earn his trust, but they must be offered slowly from a distance as he learns to feel more comfortable. As for playtime? Well, it's more of a calm factor than a game of fetch at the moment. Texas prefers serene surroundings and seems rather uninterested in toys or games—yet there’s one special activity he adores: car rides! 🚗 If you’re stepping outside, he’ll likely guide you to the car, quite the little navigator he is! Just a heads-up, he might need a gentle nudge to stay focused on that walk after his joyride! When it comes to house habits, Texas is mostly house-trained! 🚽 He’s doing well with his business outside, but due to the volume of water he drinks, he occasionally relies on a training pad. He loves his crate; it’s his little safety zone where he feels cozy and content. Currently, he’s working on the following: - Bolstering his confidence with human interactions - Engaging with fun puzzle toys and calming activities - Mastering that confident leash walk - Expanding his world with structured exposure Important notes for potential adopters: 📝 - Multiple meet-and-greets are a must—ideally over a week in calm, quiet areas. - For the first week (or more), avoid direct petting or approaches. Let him observe at his own pace. - A home without small children is essential due to his fears around fast movements and noise. - Texas thrives in a structured environment where consistency, routine, and a mountain of patience are present. Texas is looking for someone truly special, someone who can see beyond his fear and into his gentle, loving heart. With time, compassion, and the right nurturing, Texas can learn to feel safe, cherished, and perhaps even tap into a playful spirit! 🥰 So why wait?
