Siberian Huskies descend from sled dogs kept by the Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia, and they became famous during the 1925 serum run to Nome. They're medium-sized, usually 35 to 60 pounds, with a thick double coat, erect ears, a brush tail and eyes that can be brown, blue or one of each.
Many Huskies are friendly and playful with nearly everyone, so they make poor watchdogs. They were bred to run and think for themselves, which is why they howl, dig and test fences. In Spokane, that means making time for daily miles, solid fencing and patient training, plus two heavy coat sheds a year. Dogs vary, so a Husky's own personality matters more than the breed description.
