The Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle rather than a standardized breed, so size, coat and personality vary a lot. The cross took off in the 1990s as an alternative to the Labradoodle. Standards from Standard Poodle parents often weigh 50 to 80 pounds or more, while doodles with Miniature Poodle parents can be well under 35. Coats run from straight and shaggy to loose waves or tight curls.
Many doodles inherit the Golden's friendliness and the Poodle's quick mind, which makes them social and eager to train. In Spokane, that means a dog who wants to join you on the Centennial Trail and keep you company at home. Wavy and curly coats mat easily and usually need professional grooming, and shedding varies. No Goldendoodle is guaranteed to be hypoallergenic.
