Mixed Breed isn't a breed but a label for any dog whose ancestry combines two or more breeds, or is simply unknown. Sizes run from compact terrier mixes under 20 pounds to shepherd, hound or retriever mixes over 70, and coat, color, ears and build can follow any branch of the family tree. No two look quite alike.
Because ancestry varies, the best guide is the dog itself: its size, energy, age and how it responds to people and other animals. In St. George, coat and build deserve extra attention. A thick double coat can make 100-degree summers harder, while a thin, short-coated dog may feel the freezing winter nights.
