French Bulldogs trace back to small Bulldogs that English lace workers brought to France, where they were crossed with local dogs and became Parisian café favorites. Americans later set the upright bat ears. Frenchies are compact and muscular, with a square head, a very short muzzle, loose skin and a smooth coat in brindle, fawn, cream or pied patterns.
Many are playful, affectionate and easygoing, and they're usually quieter than most breeds. They're also the most registered breed in the US, and the flat face brings breathing, heat, skin and spine problems. In Tyler that means budgeting for vet care and planning carefully for summer. Dogs labeled Frenchies in shelters are sometimes mixes, so don't rely on looks alone.
