Pomeranians are the smallest of the spitz dogs, usually three to seven pounds, though plenty of pet Poms run heavier. Under the plush double coat is a sturdy little dog with a plumed tail carried over the back, small pricked ears and a fox-like face. The coat comes in nearly every color, from orange and cream to black, sable and parti-color.
In Fort Worth, coat care and heat are the main things to plan around. Poms are bold and talkative, which is easy in a house with a fence but takes training behind thin apartment walls. Expect brushing several times a week, daily tooth care, and a harness instead of a collar. Dogs vary, and a Pom's own personality and history matter more than any breed description.
