Wirehaired Terrier is partly a coat description. It's another name for the Wire Fox Terrier, an English breed developed in the 1700s and 1800s to bolt foxes from their dens, and listings also use it for wire-coated terrier mixes with Jack Russell, Border, Cairn or Schnauzer ancestry. Most weigh roughly 13 to 25 pounds, with a crisp outer coat over a softer undercoat.
Expect a bright, bold, friendly dog with classic terrier habits: barking, digging and chasing anything small that moves. The coat sheds little, but it needs weekly brushing and stripping or clipping every six to eight weeks, and a tidy coat is easier to manage in Corpus Christi's humid heat. Because ancestry varies, each dog's size, energy and coat tell you more than the label does.
