The Miniature Poodle stands over 10 and up to 15 inches tall, making it the middle of the three Poodle sizes. Poodles began as water retrievers, most likely in Germany, and the smaller varieties were later bred down as companions and circus performers. Under the famous clips is a squarely built, athletic dog with a dense, curly coat that sheds very little, though loose hair stays caught in the curls and has to be brushed out.
Many Miniatures are lively, alert and quick to learn, and they like being part of family life. Bored dogs can turn noisy or demanding, while busy ones enjoy tricks, agility and obedience. In Knoxville's humid, rainy climate, a short pet clip is easier to keep clean than a long one. Dogs vary, so spend time with a Poodle before deciding.
