Corgi is the everyday name for two Welsh herding breeds, the Pembroke and the Cardigan, and it often covers corgi mixes too. Both are long-bodied, short-legged cattle dogs with upright ears and a dense double coat. Cardigans are a bit heavier and keep a long tail, while many Pembrokes have a short one.
That herding background shows up as barking and the occasional nip at heels, which is worth knowing with close neighbors and busy sidewalks. Johnson City sits in a hilly valley, but a corgi's best exercise is steady walking and play, not steep climbs. Expect hair around the house all year, with heavier shedding in spring and fall, and a dog that wants to be involved in everything you do.
