The American Bully was developed in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, mainly from the American Pit Bull Terrier, with American Staffordshire Terrier and bulldog breeds added. The goal was a companion with a heavier, more muscular frame and a people-loving temperament. Bullies come in several size varieties, from compact Pockets to tall XLs, and in nearly every color.
Many are affectionate and eager to please, but their strength makes early training and good leash manners important. Some Bullies are choosy about other dogs, so go slowly with introductions, especially at Sioux Falls dog parks. Expect a short coat that needs little more than weekly brushing, and keep the dog lean to protect its joints.
