The Standard Poodle is the largest of the three Poodle sizes and was developed as a water retriever, probably in Germany. Under the show clips is a square, athletic dog, 18 to 24 inches tall and usually 40 to 70 pounds, with a dense curly coat in solid colors from black and white to apricot and silver.
In Columbia, that means a clever, people-focused dog that suits households who like training and time outdoors. Standards are sensitive and can fret when left alone for long stretches, so a flexible schedule or a midday break helps. The coat sheds little but keeps growing, so plan on professional grooming every six to eight weeks and brushing at home several times a week. Every dog varies, of course.
