The Aussiedoodle is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, popularized in North America over the past few decades as a companion with a lower-shedding coat. Size follows the Poodle parent, from toy and mini dogs under 30 pounds to standards around 70. Wavy or curly coats come in many colors, including merle patterns from the Aussie side.
Both parent breeds are clever working dogs, so most Aussiedoodles are affectionate, quick to learn and happiest with a job. In Philly, that job can be a long leashed walk, a trick session in a small living room or a puzzle feeder on a rainy day. Coats need brushing several times a week and a professional trim every six to eight weeks, and not every Aussiedoodle sheds lightly, since Aussie genes can bring an undercoat.
