The Weimaraner was developed in nineteenth-century Germany around Weimar as a versatile hunting dog that could track, point and retrieve. Nicknamed the Gray Ghost, it has a short, sleek coat in shades of mouse-gray to silver-gray and light amber or blue-gray eyes. Adults typically weigh 55 to 90 pounds, so this is a lean, athletic large dog.
In Toledo, that athleticism fits river paths and big parks, while the thin coat and need for company shape everyday life. Weimaraners bond closely and can turn anxious or destructive when left alone for long stretches. Dogs vary, and some are calmer than others, but most do best with steady training, daily vigorous exercise and an owner who is home often. Shedding is moderate.
