An Aussiedoodle is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, and it has become a popular mix across North America in recent decades. Size follows the Poodle parent, from toy and mini dogs under 30 pounds to standards around 70. Coats are usually wavy or curly, in many colors including merle. Because there's no breed standard, dogs vary a lot in size, coat and energy.
Both parent breeds are clever working dogs, and many Aussiedoodles share that drive. They tend to be happiest with a job, like trail walks, agility or training games. Plan on professional grooming every six to eight weeks plus frequent brushing, and know that some shed more than expected, especially those with straighter coats. After salty winter sidewalks and muddy spring trails, a quick paw and coat check helps prevent mats.
