The Standard Poodle is the largest of the three Poodle sizes and the closest to the breed's original job as a water retriever. Under the show clip is a square, athletic dog, usually 18 to 24 inches tall and 40 to 70 pounds, with a dense, curly coat in solid colors.
Standards are typically clever, sensitive and people-focused, though every dog varies. In Cincinnati, that often means a dog that picks up leash manners quickly on busy sidewalks but may fret in a tense or empty home. The low-shedding coat keeps growing, so plan on professional grooming every month or two, brushing at home, and daily exercise. A groomer can also adjust the clip between humid summers and cold winters.
