The Toy Fox Terrier is an American breed, developed in the early 1900s by crossing small Smooth Fox Terriers with toy breeds. Farmers kept them as barn ratters, and their quick minds later made them circus favorites. They weigh just a few pounds and have a satiny, mostly white coat, a black, chocolate or tan head, upright pointed ears and a high-set tail.
Many are bright, playful and devoted, with a lot of confidence for their size, though dogs vary. They can be bossy, barky and fast on the trail of anything small that moves, which matters on Brooklyn blocks full of squirrels and pigeons. Their thin coat and tiny frame call for warmth, secure harnesses and careful handling around rough play or large dogs.
