The Australian Kelpie is a lean, medium-sized herder with prick ears, a fox-like head and a short, hard double coat in black, red, blue, fawn or tan, often with tan markings. Developed in 1870s Australia from Scottish working collies, it was built to move sheep across hot, dry country, and many Kelpies still carry that stamina and heat tolerance.
In a city like Vegas, that history shows up as a dog that wants a task. Many Kelpies are loyal, quick to learn and alert, if a bit reserved with strangers. Working-line dogs often have more drive than others, and Kelpies vary, so the dog in front of you matters more than the breed description. Expect to spend time on training, daily running and mental games.
